Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery: The Patient Experience
The traditional surgical options now available in Orange County usually require large incisions, considerable disruption to surrounding tissue, lengthy hospital stays and recoveries, as well as considerable reliance on narcotic pain management techniques. Minimally invasive spinal surgery (MISS) changes this, and not only provides astounding results but also entirely shifts the patient experience of surgical care. At DISC, our goal is to profoundly reduce the stress, both physical and mental, generally associated with traditional surgery. Set in our soothing and intimate environment, we offer each patient an attentive, compassionate, personalized surgical experience. After the procedure is complete, our private, state of the art recovery rooms allow the patient to rest quietly with the peace of mind of the most advanced monitoring equipment. In addition, a member of our highly trained nursing staff, at a 1:2 nurse to patient ratio, is to be never more than a few feet away. As a result of our unique system, patients often return home within hours of their procedure. At DISC minimally invasive care is about more than the tools and techniques. It is also based on the entire support staff, who help define the patient experience. For this reason, each DISC facility houses a carefully selected staff, highly knowledgeable in spine and orthopedic procedures. We are proud to provide our patients with our service and thankful for our 98% positive patient satisfaction rating.
DISC’s Specialized Outpatient Setting
The cornerstone of a minimally invasive spinal surgery practice is the operating rooms in which it is located. Based on the physician designed 7,200 sq. ft. surgical center of Diagnostic and Interventional Surgical Center, the DISC Surgery Center at Newport Beach facility will serve as a prototypical operating room of the future. To begin, the entire facility, not only the operating rooms, is to be constantly cleansed by a 100% HEPA filtration system as well as UVC (ultraviolet) emitters, consistently destroying any incoming airborne germs, bacteria and microorganisms. Such attention to detail and intentional surpassing of conventional cleanliness standards, combined with the strictest hygiene protocols allows the current DISC locations to continue their current record of zero MRSA surgical infections. In this ultra clean space, is to be housed, a state-of-the-art operating room. The physician-designed operating rooms in which the DISC specialists operate are a combination of streamlined ergonomics, adaptable equipment and digital multimedia linking, bringing together the physician and staff at an astounding level of cohesion and efficiency. With constant access to the centralized flow of information, the surgical team is able to perform procedures with greater safety and less time spent on the operating table. All of this results in highly effective procedures, very small incisions, speedy recoveries and consistently excellent patient care.
